Some days I’m super put-together, and some days life is just… loud. That’s exactly when I reach for color and do my makeup for fun. Not to “fix” anything, not to be perfect—just to create. My quick “Inspo vs. Reality” mindset 🤭

I love an inspo photo, but I don’t treat it like a test. Sometimes the look is inspired by the most random thing—like a phone case, an iPad case, a hoodie graphic, even a candy wrapper. The goal is to borrow the vibe, not copy every millimeter.

Here’s the trick that helps me every time: pick one hero detail from the inspo (a liner shape, a color story, a tiny heart, a galaxy fade) and let everything else be simple. That’s how you still get that “unique makeup” energy without feeling overwhelmed.

Creative makeup starter kit (no brand names, just the essentials)

You don’t need a million products to do creative makeup looks. You need a few basics that can multitask:

1) A solid base routine: moisturizer + primer (or whatever makes your base sit nicely), then complexion products that you already trust. Creative looks pop more when the base is smooth.

2) A small set of bold shadows: at least one bright, one deep shade, and one shimmer. Colorful cut crease looks are way easier when you have contrast.

3) A liner tool: liquid liner, gel liner, or even a small angled brush with dark shadow. Clean lines = instant “pro” effect.

This is for when you want that crisp, editorial eye but still want it wearable. A colorful cut crease is basically structure + color, and it photographs so well.

How I do it:

First I map the crease shape slightly above my natural crease (this gives space for color). Then I blend a transition shade to create a soft “cloud.” After that, I carve the lid shape with a light base so the lid color stays bright. Pack shimmer or a bold matte on the lid, then sharpen the edge with a little concealer or a clean brush.

Make it creative: instead of one lid color, do a two-tone split (inner corner one shade, outer corner another). Or add a tiny floating liner line above the crease so it looks like “double dimension.”

Beginner tip: if carving feels scary, skip the sharp cut and do a “soft cut” by patting the light base only on the center lid. You’ll still get that lifted effect.

Start with a light base where you want the galaxy to be brightest (usually center lid or outer wing area). Tap in your bright shades first, then deepen the edges with darker tones. Blend in small circles so it looks like a nebula instead of stripes. Add shimmer on top where you want “space dust.”

The star trick: take a tiny bit of white product on a stiff brush and gently flick it (carefully) for scattered stars. Then place a few bigger dots by hand for that “wow.”

Make it even cooler: extend the galaxy into a graphic wing shape, or place it only on the lower lashline for a more subtle but still unique makeup vibe.

Look Idea 3: Fun Graphic Liner (clean, cool, and fast)

If you want creative makeup but you’re busy (same 😭), graphic liner is the easiest way to look like you tried very hard… in a short time.

Three shapes that always hit:

Floating crease line: a thin line above the crease that mirrors your eyeliner wing.

Double wing: one classic wing, plus a second smaller wing under it (or above it) with a tiny gap.

Inner corner point: extend liner into a sharp inner corner for that “doll but edgy” vibe.

Make it unique: do the liner in a bright color, then outline it with a deeper shade so it looks 3D. Or add tiny dots along the line like a constellation.

Look Idea 4: Abstract Art Eye (for the art stump days) 🖤

When I’m struggling to make creative looks, abstract art makeup saves me because there’s no “wrong.” It’s literally vibes + balance.

How to build it so it still looks intentional:

Pick a theme: “paint strokes,” “marble,” “comic book,” or “color blocks.” Then choose 2–3 colors max. Place the boldest color in one main area (like outer corner), and repeat a tiny bit of it somewhere else (like lower lashline) so it feels tied together.

Easy abstract idea: do a clean neutral lid, then add two graphic brush-stroke lines across the outer corner. Finish with mascara and a glossy lip. That’s it. It reads creative without being heavy.

Look Idea 5: Cute Heart Detail (don’t let the heart fool you) 💋

A tiny heart can look beginner-friendly, but making it crisp is actually an intermediate move. The good news: you can cheat it.

Placement ideas:

Under-eye heart (centered below the pupil), heart at the end of the wing, or a mini heart cluster near the temple.

How to make it clean:

Sketch the heart lightly with a soft pencil-like product first. Then trace it with liner. Clean edges with a tiny brush and a bit of concealer. If you want it extra cute, add a dot highlight on one side of the heart so it looks glossy.

Easy / beginner: graphic liner with one shape, single-color wash + inner corner highlight, simple lower lashline color pop.

My “makeup for fun” routine when I’m not trying to be perfect

I keep the base lighter, because the eye is the star. I do brows soft, cheeks simple, and let the creative part live on the lid or liner. If I go heavy on eyes, I go calmer on lips. If the eyes are minimal, I’ll do a bolder lip shape. Balance makes everything look more polished.
